The treatment of reports of gas escapes or fumes will, at all times, be given urgent priority. Before contacting the Contact Team on Freephone 0800 052 5399, please carry out the following procedure:

  • Turn off the gas supply immediately at the meter control valve
  • Extinguish all sources of ignition
  • Do not permit anyone to smoke
  • Do not permit any use of electrical lights or power switches
  • Ensure the building is ventilated by opening doors and windows
  • Ensure access is available for the gas fitter on arrival.

When you are reporting fumes from an appliance, please carry out the following procedure:

  • Turn off the appliance from which the fumes are being emitted
  • Ensure the building is ventilated by opening doors and windows
  • Do not permit anyone to re-use tha appliance until it has been checked bya competent person (CORGI registered)
  • Ensure access is available for the gas fitter on arrival.
