How do I know how much rent to pay?
The government introduced rent rules in 2002 designed to create a fairer rent system. The rules say that tenants should pay a similar rent for a similar property in a similar area. This is called the target rent. We set the rent for all assured tenants based on the size of your home and its value.
Rent for some properties, for example sheltered accommodation, may incur a service charge. This pays for extra services you get. Service charges will have been explained to you when you were offered your tenancy and they are also detailed in your tenancy agreement.
